OBC Scholarships – National Fellowship for OBC
It is an initiative of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India to financially aid OBC students and enable them to pursue higher education leading to degrees such as M.Phil; and Ph.D. And The government provides 300 scholarships for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF) and the scheme covers all universities recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). So The JRF students can avail themselves of the fellowship for 2 years and if the research work is progressive then the students can continue as SRF for another 3 years. The scheme is also applicable to PwD students who belong to the OBC category (they get 3% reservation out of 300 slots). So The selected students also receive allowances such as HRA, medical, and leave apart from the scholarship stipend.

OBC Scholarship Scheme
The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the OBC students studying at the post-matriculation or post-secondary stage to enable them to complete their education. So The rates under different Post-Matric Courses range between Rs. 750 per month and Rs. 260 per month for hostellers.
How to Apply PMS for OBC:
Interested OBC students may apply online through the NSP’s official website https://scholarships.gov.in or from the below-given link on or before the last date.
The duly filled application form for a post-matric scholarship for OBC students shall be sent to the prescribed authority comprising of:
- One copy of passport size photographs, attested and signed by the student.
- One copy of the qualifying examination’s passing certificate, i.e. diploma/matriculation/degree.
- Caste certificate signed by the authorized officer (above the rank of Tehsildar).
- An income certificate by the guardian or parent, stating the annual income from all sources.

Renewal and Duration:
The scholarship award will be provided till the completion of the course, students must maintain good conduct and full attendance. The scholarship award may be renewed if the Group-A course students fail in the examination for the 1st time.
If he fails for the second time in any class the scholar shall carry their own expenses until they promote to the next class. The scholarship will be renewed every year on the basis of good conduct and promotion to the next class.

OBC Scholarships – Central Sector Scheme for National Overseas
This scheme is for selected OBC students or professionals who wish to pursue a master’s or Ph.D. in a foreign university. So The fields of study eligible under this scheme are Engineering, Management, Agricultural Science, and Medicine. 30% of the scholarships are allotted to female applicants and 25 scholarships are provided per subject per year. The Ph.D. So candidates are offered a fellowship for 4 years and the master’s candidates are offered a fellowship for 3 years. So The scholars also get other allowances apart from the scholarship prize such as incidence journey allowance; visa fees, poll tax, medical insurance, airfare, local travel allowance, and other benefits.

OBC Scholarship Eligibility
- The candidates belonging to the OBC category with an annual family income of INR 6 Lakh.
- They should have passed the postgraduate examination and wish to pursue full-time research without the JRF of UGC-NET or UGC-CSIR NET.
- So The candidates must be registered for regular, full-time M.Phil./Ph.D. program in the field of Science, Humanities, Social Science or Engineering & Technology from universities/colleges/institutions recognized by UGC; State/Central Government or institutes of national importance.

So The aim of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students studying in the post-matric or post-secondary stage to enable them to complete their education. This is a 100% centrally sponsored scheme implemented through State Government and Union territories. Therefore The scholars are paid non-refundable fees (for tuition, games, union, library, etc), charges for study tours, and thesis typing. So The OBC candidates belonging to one state but pursuing the course in another state are awarded a scholarship by competing authorities in that state.
