Pre-Matric Scholarship: The Government of India spends a major part of its resources on the development of various religious minorities in India. Communities including Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Parsis (Parsis) and Jains have been notified as minority communities by the government. Under the purview of the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MOMA), the government regulates various development programs aimed at the upliftment of minority communities. Scholarships are the most notable of these developmental programmes.

Pre-Matric Scholarship for Minorities is one of the many important scholarships provided by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India. This MOMA scholarship is exclusively for the children of minorities studying in classes 1 to 10. The government provides this scholarship every year so as to reduce the financial burden of education for the parents of minority communities. Due to the rising cost of education, there has been a proportionate increase in the drop-out rates of students. The aim of such a scholarship is to reduce this rising dropout rate.

भारत सरकार अपने संसाधनों का एक बड़ा हिस्सा भारत में विभिन्न धार्मिक अल्पसंख्यकों के विकास पर खर्च करती है। मुस्लिम, सिख, ईसाई, बौद्ध, पारसी (पारसी) और जैन सहित समुदायों को सरकार द्वारा अल्पसंख्यक समुदायों के रूप में अधिसूचित किया गया है। अल्पसंख्यक मामलों के मंत्रालय (MOMA) के दायरे में, सरकार अल्पसंख्यक समुदायों के उत्थान के उद्देश्य से विभिन्न विकास कार्यक्रमों को नियंत्रित करती है। इन विकास कार्यक्रमों में छात्रवृत्तियां सबसे उल्लेखनीय हैं।

Pre-Matric Scholarship for Minorities – Objective

Pre-matric scholarship for minorities was started with an aim to encourage parents from minority communities to send their children to schools and to ensure that all children have access to basic education till class 10. Due to the rising cost of education, pre-matric scholarship for minorities has proved to be beneficial in reducing the dropout rates of students.

The objective of this MOMA scholarship is to use education to empower students from minority communities. Education, in turn, provides equal opportunity in a highly competitive employment field. Equality in employment opportunities also helps in uplifting the socio-economic conditions of minority communities.

Pre-Matric Scholarship for Minorities – Eligibility

Scholarship for Minorities is for minority students studying in classes 1 to 10. Therefore, candidates eligible for this MOMA scholarship must belong to any of the minority communities. Following are the eligibility requirements for the Pre-Matric Scholarship for Minorities-

  • Applicants must belong to a minority community notified by the Government of India. These include Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Parsis (Parsis) and Jains.
  • Candidates must have studied classes 1 to 10 in government or private schools.
  • Students applying for this MoMA scholarship must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the previous final examination.
  • The annual family income of the parents/guardian of the candidate should not exceed Rs.1 lakh. This annual income includes the total income from all sources.

Pre-Matric Scholarship for Minorities – Application Process

Like many other centrally sponsored scholarships, this Scholarship for Minorities is also available on the National Scholarship Portal or NSP. For those unaware of NSP, it is a one-stop solution for all the scholarships provided by the Central Government. So instead of going through multiple notifications and advertisements to check the latest scholarship, one can visit NSP. NSP provides a single automated platform for scholarship application, receipt, sanction and disbursement.

One can follow the steps given below to apply for a this Scholarship for Minorities using NSP:

  • सबसे पहले आवेदक को एनएसपी की आधिकारिक वेबसाइट पर जाना होगा।
  • फिर सभी आवश्यक विवरण प्रदान करके एक नए उपयोगकर्ता के रूप में पंजीकरण करने की आवश्यकता है।
  • अधिवास विवरण, नाम, जन्म तिथि, मोबाइल नंबर, लिंग और ईमेल आईडी प्रदान करें और आवेदन करने के लिए छात्रवृत्ति का चयन करें।

While applying for the Pre-Matric Scholarship for Minorities, an applicant needs to upload a certain set of documents on the application portal. The following documents are required during the application process:

Can we give bank accounts to parents for scholarships?
The bank account details of the candidate should be there, but if the candidate is a minor then he/she can upload his/her father’s bank details.

Can a student apply for both National and State scholarships?
No, you can apply for only one Govt. Scholarship as applying for a scholarship under National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is required to apply under State Scholarship Portal (SSP) as applying under SSP requires an NSP ID. Only those students who are not included in NSP will come under the purview of SSP.

What are pre-matric and post-matric?
Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme – This scholarship scheme is for the students of classes 1st to 10th. Post Matric Scholarship Scheme – This scholarship scheme is for the students of class 11th, 12th and above and includes courses like ITI, BSc, BCom, BTech, Medical etc.
