SVMCM Scholarship 2024: The Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship (SVMCM scholarship) is a widely recognised scholarship. The SVMCM is a government programme in West Bengal that helps worthy but underprivileged students. Under the SVMCM Scholarship programme, students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who demonstrate academic excellence can receive financial assistance. The Higher Education Department of the West Bengal government oversees the SVMCM scholarship programme.

All students, including those enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and research programmes, can access it. Being primarily a means-based scholarship is one of the SVMCM Scholarship’s most unique characteristics. This implies that students must be from low-income families in addition to having excellent academic records.

SVMCM: Eligibility

Students who are interested in applying for the SVMCM Scholarship Scheme 2024 should check if they meet the requirements by looking over the SVMCM eligibility criteria provided below. Students must regularly enrol in one of the following courses:

  • Classes 11 and 12
  • Undergraduate (Science, Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Medical, and Technical/Professional programs)
  • Postgraduate (Science/Arts/Commerce/Technology/Management)

Note: Students from the minority community, such as Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, Jainites, Sikhs, and Parsis, are also eligible for another version of this scholarship.

SVMCM Scholarship: Specific Eligibility
  • 60% of the total points from the previous qualifying exam (75% for candidates who passed the previous year) from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, West Bengal Council for Higher Secondary Education, Madrasa Education for Higher Secondary level, or Undergraduate level Research Scholarships
  • 60% overall in diploma programmes from AICTE-approved institutions affiliated with WBSCT&VE&SD for Under Graduate Level Scholarships (in second-year engineering, technology, or pharmacy courses through Lateral Entry) or affiliated with State Medical Faculty for Under Graduate Level Scholarships (in second-year pharmacy courses through Lateral Entry).
  • For PG Level Scholarship (General Education), applicants must have earned an aggregate of 53% in their graduation (honours subject) from any state university and 55% in their graduate courses from any state university or an AICTE-approved West Bengali institution for Post Graduate Level Scholarship (Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy).
  • Students from state-aided institutions pursuing M.Phil. programmes and PhD programmes (Non-NET Junior Research Fellow and NET-Lecturership).
  • Girls who have completed their undergraduate degrees with at least 45% overall and are pursuing postgraduate degrees at state-affiliated universities are eligible to apply for the scholarship programme as Kanyashree (K3) candidates.
  • For all candidates to be eligible to apply for the SVMCM scheme, their family income must be Rs. 2,50,000 or less annually.

Documents required for SVMCM Scholarship

Applicants may be denied their applications if they fail to provide the required documentation when submitting an application for a Swami Vivekananda Scholarship or a Bikash Bhavan Scholarship. The essential document list that they need to attach to their online application consists of:

The marksheet for the most recent exam that was passed, front and back

  • Madhyamik admit card or other equivalent examination
  • Certificate of income (in the format required)
  • Affidavit of Income (in the format required)
  • Their bank passbook’s first page, which prominently displays the account number and IFSC information
  • Voter ID cards, ration cards, and Aadhaar cards
  • A recent image that is between 10 and 50 KB in size
  • Institute verification form, properly authenticated by the Head of Institution (HOI), in the format specified

How do I apply for the SVMCM Scholarship?

Students must complete the SVMCM Scholarship 2024 application process, which is outlined below, in order to be eligible for this scholarship.

  • The SVMCM 2024 registration form, which can be found on the official SVMCM scholarship website, must be filled out by applicants.
  • In 2024, upon completing the SVMCM registration form, an applicant ID will be produced.

SVMCM Scholarship: Renewal

The Swami Vivekananda Scholarship (Bikash Bhawan Scholarship) winners are required to apply for the scholarship’s renewal each year. To renew your scholarship, you must do the following:

1: Go to the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship website to start the application process.
2: Select “Renewal Application” from the menu.
3: Enter the registered login ID and password to log in.
4: Provide all the necessary information and attach the necessary files.
5: In the end, send in the application for renewal.

Essential documents that need to be renewed:

  • Marksheets for the first and second semesters for the second-year renewal and the third and fourth semesters for the third-year renewal at the undergraduate level are provided.
  • Marksheet for the first and second semesters for the PG second-year renewal

SVMCM Scholarship: Selection Process
