Ishan Uday Scholarship 2023-24: A Special Scholarship Scheme for North Eastern Region (NER)

Ishan Uday Scholarship 2023-24: A scholarship programme administered by the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Education. The UGC has chosen to implement the “Ishan Uday” Special Scholarship Scheme for North Eastern Region beginning with the academic session 2014–15. The scheme is intended to improve the GER, promote higher education, and encourage children from the economically disadvantaged sections of the NE region. The UGC has a particular interest in promoting higher education in the NER. The North Eastern Council, Shillong, the State Governments, Central and State Universities, the Ministry of, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, and other stakeholders were all consulted extensively by the UGC before to the scheme’s inception. The scholar would receive recognition starting on the day they enrolled in the course, as confirmed by the college, university, or institution.

Objective

Launched for the 2014–15 academic year, the Ishan Uday scholarship scheme aims to increase enrollment rates in the Northeast Region and inspire students from low-income families to pursue higher education. Furthermore, the UGC intends to enhance professional education in the Northeast by means of this scholarship programme.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The North-Eastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura are where the applicants must be residents.
  • The combined annual family income of the candidates cannot exceed INR 4.5 lakh.
  • For applications to be considered for the current academic year, candidates must have passed class 12 or its equivalent in the year before.
  • Furthermore, applicants must have been admitted in the first year of any degree course, including integrated courses, in any of the universities, colleges, or institutes under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, Deemed-to-be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, and eligible to receive grants-in-aid from the UGC in order to be eligible for grants-in-aid from the UGC, state or centrally funded educational institutions, prestigious national institutes, and institutes where admission is made with an AISHE code.
  • Students who identify as transgender can also benefit from the Ishan Uday scholarship.
  • Students who are attending open universities to further their education are not eligible to apply for the Ishan Uday scholarship.
  • Furthermore, this grant is not available to people who have sought for admission using the management quota, who have been awarded other scholarships, or who are enrolled in courses that do not lead to a degree.

Ishan Uday Scholarship: Rewards

Every year, the Ishan Uday scholarship for NER awards 10,000 scholarships to deserving students, with the maximum monthly award being INR 7,800. The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is the only online application system available to candidates desiring to apply for the Ishan Uday scholarship.   • First, the new applicants must correctly fill out the NSP Portal’s registration form as new users.
  • When completing the registration form, candidates must include information about their educational background, Aadhaar number, school or college enrollment number, bank information, and state of domicile.
  • The application ID of the applicants is produced based on the state in which they now reside. Additionally, this application ID serves as the “Login ID” for the NSP Portal and any upcoming references.
  • It is necessary to carefully fill out information such as the applicant’s name, date of birth, email address, identity data, and mobile number.
  • The candidate receives an OTP after completing the registration form, which they must use to log in and complete the scholarship application. Candidates need to fill out the application and upload all required files.

Selection Process
